Make your home Thanksgiving festive with fresh and same day delivery flowers and baskets from Penny’s By Plaza Flowers
Penny's By Plaza Flowers On Thanksgiving, create a festive and fresh atmosphere in your home with fantastic flowers and baskets from Penny's By Plaza Flowers. Our talented floral designers have produced some of the most sensational holiday floral products you will find anywhere. Thanksgiving originated in 1621. During a very cold winter when the Pilgrims first landed in America, they were able to survive by the generosity of the Native Americans that shared food with them. To repay their new friends, the Pilgrims held a three day feast. The bounty they shared included dried fruits, boiled pumpkin, turkey, venison and other foods. A slightly different menu from what we are accustomed to but no doubt a delightful feast at that time. Over the many years the theme of a celebration of harvest has continued to evolve. Today we think of Thanksgiving as a time to give thanks for our foundation of this great Nation. Of course it is also the official start of the holiday season and a special time of fellowship with family and friends. After consistent encouragement, President Lincoln declared Thanksgiving a nation wide holiday in 1863. As many people will be traveling and or hosting the Thanksgiving Day meal, there are guidelines to contemplate according to the CDC. Some of their modified guidelines from last year are: Protect those not yet eligible for vaccination such as young children by getting yourself and other eligible people around them vaccinated. Wear well-fitting masks over your nose and mouth if you are in public indoor settings if you are not fully vaccinated. Even those who are fully vaccinated should wear a mask in public indoor settings in communities with substantial to high transmission. Avoid crowded, poorly ventilated spaces. If you are sick or have symptoms, do not host or attend a gathering. Get tested if you have symptoms of COVID-19 or have a close contact with someone who has COVID-19. If you are considering traveling for a holiday or event, visit CDC’s travel page to help you decide what is best for you and your family. CDC still recommends delaying travel until you are fully vaccinated. If you are not fully vaccinated and must travel, follow CDC’s domestic traveler or international travel recommendations for unvaccinated people. If you will be traveling in a group or family with unvaccinated people, choose safer travel options. Everyone, even people who are fully vaccinated, is required to wear a mask on public transportation and follow international travel recommendations". This Veterans Day, show appreciation to a Veteran you know with fresh and stylish flowers and plants from Penny’s By Plaza Flowers
Penny's By Plaza Flowers This and every November 11th is Veterans Day . The history behind this important national holiday is that in 1918 on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, all major hostilities of World War I were formally ended. Veterans Day was originally called Armistice Day and was created to celebrate the service of all U.S. military veterans. A respectable way to honor a Veteran on this special day, is to send a flower arrangement or plant from Penny's By Plaza Flowers. President Woodrow Wilson gave a memorable speech in 1919 during which he commended the men and women of the United States military. "To us in America the reflections of Armistice Day will be filled with solemn pride in the heroism of those who died in the country's service, and with gratitude for the victory, both because of the thing from which it has freed us and because of the opportunity it has given America to show her sympathy with peace and justice in the councils of nations". Armistice Day and Remembrance Day are celebrated in other countries as a remembrance to the end of World War I. However in 1954, Veterans Day became the official name for our United States day to honor our military men and women. Veterans Day differs from Memorial Day. While both days honor our military, Memorial Day is designated to honor those who died while fighting for our country. Veterans Day is designated to honor all of the military folks who have served our country. In addition to an elegant floral product from Penny's By Plaza Flowers, below is a short list of ideas for other kind acts to honor a Veteran. Volunteer your skills - If you have knowledge of a trade or financial planning etc., veterans can benefit from your volunteer teaching. Donate Money - There are several organizations that support veterans and they can always use private donations. Donate frequent-flyer miles - For any of us that travel a lot for work or pleasure, perhaps you have accumulated some extra travel miles that you may not use. One organization that would love the free flyer miles is the Fisher House Foundation Hero Miles Program. They are dedicated to assisting family members with travel expenses so that they can be close to their loved one who may be ill or injured. Veteran Speaker - Many veterans have wonderful and inspirational stories of over coming adversity and never giving up. Find one that enjoys speaking to other veterans. Hire a veteran - If you own a small business or are in a hiring position at a company, perhaps hire a veteran who is anxious to get out into the working world. Hire a veteran's caregiver - Offering support to veteran's families is so valuable. Plus many of these folks are incredible employees. Do business with a veteran-owned company - Astonishingly there are an estimated 27 million veteran owned small businesses in the U.S. These companies [...]
The owner of Penny’s By Plaza Flowers, Chris Drummond, shares recent trends in the floral industry
Holiday Decorating Trends By Chris Drummond, AAF, PFCI Penny’s By Plaza Flowers The pandemic has caused many of us to spend more time at home working on our gardens and revitalizing interior spaces. We all seem to be planning to decorate with renewed energy and focus this holiday season. Here are six trends we are noticing at Penny’s by Plaza Flowers. Incorporate berries, pods, pinecones and more into centerpieces. This Thanksgiving table centerpiece includes much more than just fresh lilies and roses. The designer adds a high degree of warmth and visual interest with hypericum berries, mini pumpkins, millet and artificial pip berries. As you decorate, think of creative ways to add both natural and artificial elements to enrich your designs. Carry your themes from floor to ceiling. Windows, mantles and sofa tables continue to be popular places for seasonal decorations. However the baubles, ribbons, branches and pinecones are moving higher. Starting with inverted Christmas trees a few years ago, we now see many decorations near the ceiling, including extensive chandelier designs and cozy column toppers like the one shown here. Variety is key when selecting greenery. For decades, traditional evergreens such as pine, fir, spruce and cedar have dominated December décor. Consider the elements in the photos here. On the left is our traditional assortment, which is certainly very pretty and achieves the goal of creating a welcoming environment with visual winter warmth. On the right, we’ve kicked it up a notch by adding millet, Italian ruscus and two varieties of eucalyptus for added texture and color. Have fun mixing new varieties of fresh greens into your holiday mix. Trendy trees are packed with natural items and simple color themes. Use your current glass balls, but stick to one or two colors. Then bring nature indoors by adding pods, mushrooms, berries, fruit, bird nests, pods, preserved leaves, real branches and more. Here we show a close-up photo of one example. Bicolor florals, fresh and permanent, are all the rage. Botanists throughout the world are busy creating new varieties of flowers for us to enjoy. While they often focus on disease resistance, stem length, head size and longevity, most recently they’ve worked on breeding cultivars with multiple colors in each bloom. Look for fantastic bicolor varieties of roses, amaryllis, lilies and poinsettias. Table scaping is a great alternative to a single centerpiece. Stop by your florist or greenhouse and pick up some small potted plants; in this example we show four Norfolk Island Pines in four inch pots. Add pinecones, magnolia leaves, ornaments, moss, berries and fresh flowers. Frame everything with branches you’ve foraged. This is great for mantle or dining table. I suggest you get together with friends and family and [...]

In her observation, it did not seem clear to younger workers that their supervisors were dedicated, committed and hard working individuals. She felt their dedication needed to be realized and appreciated. For many years it was customary for an employee to simply give their boss or supervisor a thank you card. Today it is very common that gifts are given on Boss’s Day. Typical gifts are candy and chocolates. In many cases employees pool their money to buy even bigger gifts.
