Since that time this special day of recognition has been observed to honor the fine men and women that mold our future generations. Local events are typically scheduled close to this day so they do not conflict with the fall break for school vacation. Celebrations in many countries are held to honor teachers as a group and often special teachers that have made a unique contribution to their communities are honored singly. Other events like teacher conferences and recruitment drives at universities or other places are held. All of this to emphasis the important role teachers play in our lives and to encourage prospective young professionals to consider the teaching trade as a career. As World Teacher's Day is observed globally, many Trade unions or other professional organizations that represent teachers play an important role in organizing this day and the wonderful events that occur. Some of the countries that are devoted to World Teacher's Day observance are: The Australian Education Union. The Canadian Teachers' Federation. The Elementary Teachers' Federation of Ontario (Canada). The All India Secondary Teachers' Federation. The Japan Teachers' Union. The Teachers Council (New Zealand). Penny’s By Plaza Flowers has thoughtfully prepared Funeral Flowers!
Penny's By Plaza Flowers Voted Best Florist In Philadelphia Funerals Planning a funeral for a loved one is a very difficult task. There is so much to consider and you want the experience to be one of respect and dignity. People have different ways of handling the occasion. Some funerals are very solemn and traditional while others are more of a celebration of life. I remember years ago when I was working in the financial industry and living in New Orleans, the famous restaurateur, Ruth Fertel and founder of the Ruth Chris Steakhouse, held a lavish party in 1999 at her grave-site. This party, by some reports, cost $500,000. She passed away in 2002 after a long bout with cancer. What ever your funeral theme, the professionals at Penny's By Plaza Flowers will prepare the most elegant floral arrangement for your loved one's funeral. Coffin with elegant flowers and burning candles Funeral Visitation The visitation is a critical part of most funeral events. Most commonly, the body of the deceased is on display one or two evenings prior to the actual funeral. Years ago it was considered proper to place the casket bearing the deceased in their home or that of a relative. Today, it is more commonly acceptable to have the viewing at a formal funeral home. Though in some parts of the world like Ireland and Scotland the body is still placed in the home for casket viewing. Loved ones are sometimes dressed to reflect how they lead their life or often in their finest dress clothes. Penny's By Plaza Flowers knows how meaningful it is at this time to surround the viewing with beauty and dignity. Our funeral flowers prepared by our talented designers are of the most elegant and tasteful to be found. We would be honored to provide a floral arrangement to meet your need. Large funeral flowers in wreath with ribbon on floor Funeral Receptions Funeral receptions are full of kindness and genuine respect and concern for the family. Often these events are filled with good food, large numbers of friends and relatives and the quiet loving conversations of memories about the departed. It is a time of closure when hugs and tenderness are the most needed human interaction. Small children sometimes play with no grasp for the solemness of the occasion. That in itself restores the soul to one of the full understanding of the circle of life. There are common things you may bring to a funeral reception. Some of those are a heartfelt single flower, Sympathy Bouquet, Sympathy Card or Food. Penny's By Plaza Flowers has very tasteful and classy Funeral Gift Food Baskets. Please visit us and let us help you select the most appropriate basket for your gift of love. Penny's By Plaza Flowers has talented professional floral designers Thanksgiving is such a marvelous holiday. Surrounded by loved ones family and friends, we celebrate this last Thursday in November for many reasons. In the words of Abraham Lincoln, he proclaimed it a national day of "Thanksgiving and Praise to our beneficent Father who dwelleth in the Heavens". Of course historically we refer to the first Thanksgiving as the celebration of the Pilgrims first harvest in the New World which occurred in October of 1621. Records indicate this feast was attended by 53 Pilgrims and 90 Native Americans. This is also the last major holiday before we kick of the Christmas season. There are many events that occur like professional football, college basketball tournaments, Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, holiday television shows and more. Perhaps the biggest event however is the meal. The house is filled with pleasant aromas and the anticipation of sitting at the table to indulge is almost more than we can take. Penny's By Plaza Flowers can prepare a spectacular center piece of wonderful fall colored flowers or a tasty holiday basket to go along with your feast. Festive table setting with basket of autumn flowers, candle and pumpkin So from a scientific perspective, just what is the Fall season? Sometimes referred to as Autumn, Fall is one of our four temperate seasons. Hopefully it is a smooth transition from summer to winter. While many of us have enjoyed the longer days of summer to participate in outdoor activities, Fall introduces shorter days and cooler temperatures. Starting in late September and lasting until late December, Fall brings with it a changing of the [...]
Penny’s By Plaza Flowers has the perfect Flowers and Gifts for your Homecoming!
Penny's By Plaza Flowers Voted Pennsylvania's "Florist of the Year" Homecoming History The temperatures are starting to cool and school is back in session. Soon everything you eat, drink and smell will have a hint of Pumpkin Spice. This past weekend kicked off one of my most favorite sporting events, college football! Another special time is that of homecoming. While younger elementary children delight in buying school supplies, the older high school and college age students are consumed with the planning, excitement and glamour of the homecoming tradition. Girls start day dreaming if their crush will invite them to the homecoming dance or banquet and guys start wondering if they will have the courage to ask. Have you ever wondered how homecoming started and perhaps what all the hoop la is about? The tradition of homecoming can be traced back many years. It is usually a celebration of a football home game where the home team has is scheduled to play a less talented team so the expectation of a win is prevalent. After the big game, there is typically a banquet and a dance. You can find homecoming celebrations all across our great nation in small rural towns and in large cities. Some history of this wonderful tradition's origination can be credited to the Kansas vs. Missouri game on 1911 where the game was referred to as homecoming. Many other teams like Baylor University and Northern Illinois also had homecoming games in 1909 and 1903 respectively. It is such a marvelous concept and a true fall tradition. One of the best ways to add to the excitement for your student or friend is to provide a beautiful flower arrangement or thoughtful gift carefully prepared by our professional designers at Penny's By Plaza Flowers. Since our inception, Penny's By Plaza Flowers has offered delivery to the entire Philadelphia region seven days a week. Penny’s By Plaza Flowers provided beautiful wedding flowers for Caitlin’s and Michael’s wedding
Penny's By Plaza Flowers Voted Best Florist In Philadelphia Penny's By Plaza Flowers was the florist of choice for Caitlin and Michael. All flower arrangements for their recent wedding in Hallam, PA were handled by the professionals at Penny's By Plaza Flowers. Our wonderful floral arrangements were front and center during the wedding and for the reception. When a Bride and Groom plan their wedding nothing can be left to chance. It is a precious time in their lives and one that signifies their life time bond. Did you know that the tradition of wedding flowers began back in ancient Greek and Roman times? Back then both the Bride and the Groom wore crowns and garland. The flowers they chose symbolized different attributes. For instance , Ivy was worn by brides and symbolized eternal love and fidelity. Orange blossoms symbolized fertility because the tree’s fruits and flowers bloom simultaneously. Caitlin's bridal bouquet was stunning thanks to Penny's by Plaza Flowers and the thoughtful precision with which their professional floral designers prepared the wedding bouquet. Have you ever pondered the history behind why a bride carries a bouquet? A little research reveals some interesting data. So back in the 15th century, brides really had not been introduced to daily hygiene. Meaning that annual baths were held in May. To make matters worse, the women took their baths after the men had theirs. Consequently, most weddings were held in June! Thus the reason for the fragrant floral bouquet. Another theory was that the bouquet would ward off evil spirits so obviously those wedding bouquets were not very pleasant to the sense of smell since they were made from herbs such as dill and most likely other pungent herbs like garlic and chives. Personally I am in favor of some of the more positive attributes of the wedding bouquet like making the newly weds frisky or to send a sweet message. In Victorian times the wedding bouquet would be chosen by the groom and the selection of flowers he used would provide a coded message of sweet love to his bride to be. Similarly, brides would choose flowers to send a coded message to their husbands to be. You can find other purposes for the bridal bouquet but I think it is fair to say the wedding bouquet Penny's Flowers prepared for Caitlin is nothing short of spectacular and smelled of fresh cut sweet flowers! The word boutonniere is French and the British years ago referred to them as button hole flowers. Oddly these flowers have some of the same history of being created to ward off bad smells and evil spirits. Another group source believes that the Egyptians or Aztecs wore them to show support for their sporting event athletes. Still other sources belief the these boutonnieres were worn during the civil war battlefields in England. Different colors or flower types helped to distinguish friend from foe. Today it is a common tradition for the groom, [...]
Penny’s Flowers & Plaza Flowers Celebrate Labor Day Together!
Penny's By Plaza Flowers Voted Best Florist In Philadelphia The temperatures in Philadelphia have almost reached their peak for the Summer. Once we reach Labor Day, it is just a matter of time before those super hot Summer days give way to the fresh, cooler temperatures of the Fall season. If you are like me, I am ready to welcome in the cooler days. The good news is this, Labor day isn't far away now. In fact, the award winning floral design team at Penny's By Plaza Flowers is already busy creating luxurious, upscale floral designs themed for Labor Day. This year is really going to be extra special. Plaza Flowers recently purchased Penny's Flowers. Both firms are long time Philadelphia Flower Shops. This year, our merged team gets to design Labor Day designs together. Plaza Flowers and Penny's Flowers Merger Chris Drummond, of Plaza Flowers now called Penny's By Plaza Flowers explained "The Pannepackers are like extended family and the opportunity to continue Penny’s legacy is a dream come true,” Though these two families, Drummonds and Pannepackers, were competitors for decades, they had mutual respect and friendship that made the merger of the two splendid floral shops a natural fit. With the nationally recognized holiday, Labor Day, just around the corner on September 2, 2019, it reminds us of the values of the american worker that have built this country into the entrepreneurial success that it is today. Dottie Drummond, the founder of Plaza Flowers and Vincent Pannepacker, the founder of Penny's Flowers, epitomize the values of the hard working American business owner. Vincent Pannepacker, known to everyone as “Penny,” began working at Turner’s Hardware on Keswick Avenue after the Great Depression. Since there was no florist nearby, he convinced Mr. Turner to sell potted flowers on the sidewalk. Penny was charged with purchasing, watering and merchandising the flowers and plants. In 1937, a small storefront near the Keswick Theater became vacant and Penny convinced his wife, Emily, to start their own florist there. Penny’s flowers was born. Nine years later, Penny and Emily purchased the vacant lot at the corner of Wharton and Keswick and built a state-of-the art flower shop and greenhouse. The spectacular 1947 “Hollywood Grand Opening” hosted thousands of guests and showcased a wide variety of flowers lavishly designed in the latest styles. Dottie Drummond, founded Plaza Flowers in 1983. Dottie embodied the work ethic and customer service passion that built a successful business with many loyal customers. Since inception Plaza Flowers has offered this same level of service Dottie ingrained into the business and future generations of Plaza Flowers family members. Seven day per week service for the entire Philadelphia region existed then and still does today. Wonderful Flowers and gifts prepared by the professional Plaza Flowers folks can be found at any time. As a result of their outstanding service, Plaza Flowers has been voted and awarded numerous commendations such as, as "Best Florist" by several regional publications, Pennsylvania's "Florist [...]
Plaza Flowers voted Pennsylvania’s “Florist of the Year”
Penny's By Plaza Flowers We provide flowers for the John James Audubon Center Plaza Flowers, founded by the The Drummond Family, provides beautiful and professionally prepared floral arrangements for all occasions. One particular client is the John James Audubon Center. Named after painter and naturalist, John James Audubon, the center is located at Mill Grove on the west side of the village of Audubon. Presently situated on more than 175 acres and five miles of wooded trails on the south bank of Perkiomen Creek, this amazing bird sanctuary touts more than 175 different bird species that call this home. The fine staff at the center focus on their purpose which in their words is " Our mission is to conserve and restore natural ecosystems, focusing on birds, other wildlife, and their habitats for the benefit of humanity and the earth’s biological diversity". In the words of Plaza Flowers owner Chris Drummond, the family lived within walking distance and we all knew that county park like the back of our hand. We hiked the trails, climbed the trees, fished in the Perkiomen Creek, and participated in many service projects at Mill Grove. When the name changed to the John James Audubon Center, and they began hosting events, it was a natural fit for the Drummonds to be the florists of choice. We would help set up the chairs for wedding ceremonies, then add shepherd hooks, aisle runners, flowers and more. At first everything was very natural ... outside. Since then the barn has been remodeled and they've added a beautiful pavilion, complete with an air conditioned bridal suite. Plaza Flowers is a family owned business founded in 1983 by Dottie Drummond. Dottie had a keen ability to leave her customers delighted with service and stunning Flowers.
