Halloween has been linked by historians to the Celtic festival of the summer’s end. It was called Samhain and the countries of Ireland and Scotland is where the festivals generally took place. Sort of a dark mythology but people believed that during this period of time there was a thinning of the veil that separated the “Otherworld” from the real world. This allowed the spirits and the souls of the dead to cross over back into the world of the living. Obviously people wanted to be on the good side of these spirits so they would prepare food offerings that they hoped would please them.
