A wonderful and much anticipated holiday, Easter falls on different dates from year to year and in 2021 it falls on April 4th. The reason for this change is that Easter always falls on the first Sunday after the first full moon following the spring equinox. Easter, as with other holidays, ushers in a changing of the seasons. In the Jewish faith, this time is referred to as Passover. The Hebrew Bible commemorates Passover as a festival which celebrates the liberation of the Jewish people from slavery in Egypt. This is referenced in the Book of Exodus. During the time of Jesus, Jewish pilgrims flocked to Jerusalem in hope that God would liberate them from the Romans. On one Passover, Jesus traveled to Jerusalem and the resulting disturbance in the Temple ultimately led to his crucifixion.
In early America, the Easter festival was more celebrated by Catholics than Protestants. The Puritans of New England considered both Easter and Christmas as festivals for heavy drinking and merrymaking. However, by the 19th century this belief had changed and the holidays became a time to spend joyous moments with family. Today customary traditions of Easter Egg Hunting, Parades and the Easter Bunny have become the norm.

Dottie Drummond, a second-generation florist, purchased a small flower shop in 1983. Her sales volume grew too quickly for this 700 square foot store in King of Prussia, Pennsylvania. Eleven months after the grand opening she purchased her second location in Norristown, which was planned to support the primary sales location in King of Prussia by housing the offices, warehouse, and design facility. This new location became one of the busiest intersections in the Philadelphia region.
Dottie’s success was the result of a very simple philosophy: “Deliver beautifully designed fresh flowers everyday.” Many people thought she was crazy. Everyday? Even evenings and Sundays? No florists are open on Sunday. She understood that Plaza Flowers had to be available for every occasion, even evenings and Sundays.
Mrs. Drummond instilled the customer first attitude into every member of her team, including her daughter, Heather, and son Chris, who now run the family business. Chris and Heather have worked hard to make sure every customer gets the personalized attention that Mom promised. This was expanded to a national level as Chris and Heather developed a network of affiliate florists throughout the country.
