Thanksgiving is such a marvelous holiday. Surrounded by loved ones family and friends, we celebrate this last Thursday in November for many reasons. In the words of Abraham Lincoln, he proclaimed it a national day of “Thanksgiving and Praise to our beneficent Father who dwelleth in the Heavens”. Of course historically we refer to the first Thanksgiving as the celebration of the Pilgrims first harvest in the New World which occurred in October of 1621. Records indicate this feast was attended by 53 Pilgrims and 90 Native Americans. This is also the last major holiday before we kick of the Christmas season.

There are many events that occur like professional football, college basketball tournaments, Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, holiday television shows and more. Perhaps the biggest event however is the meal. The house is filled with pleasant aromas and  the anticipation of sitting at the table to indulge is almost more than we can take. So from a scientific perspective, just what is the Fall season? Sometimes referred to as Autumn, Fall is one of our four temperate seasons. Hopefully it is a smooth transition from summer to winter.  While many of us have enjoyed the longer days of summer to participate in outdoor activities, Fall introduces shorter days and cooler temperatures.
